A cutscene is a break in gameplay that usually lasts between 10 seconds and 1 minute. They are full CGI clips that enhance the storyline. Game developers can do more with cutscenes than they can in the gameplay. Assassin’s Creed had minimal cutscenes in my opinion, but games like Mass Effect were filled with it. Some people like it, some hate it.
According to the British Board of Film Classification, Assassin’s Creed 2 will have plenty of CGI cutscenes. “When submitted to the BBFC the linear elements within the work had a running time (eg cut scenes) of 181m 30s,” the board said.
I don’t mind cutscenes at all, as long as they enhance the story line and have great dialog. Like the one seen here:
