Assassin’s Creed 2 Expansion

assassins creed 3

Ubisoft just surprised the world when they announced that Ezio will be back in a new Assassin’s Creed game, due out by March 2011. WHAT?! They made it kind of clear that this won’t be Assassin’s Creed 3, but more like an add-on or expansion pack. They have multiple design studios working on the game right now to get it out in time. Maybe now we know why they haven’t been pushing Assassin’s Creed 2 PC that hard.

“We have a new Assassin’s Creed that we expect will be a very high quality product that as well as an offline complement will have a multiplayer component,” said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. We won’t be seeing any online multiplayer – but offline multiplayer is a move in the right direction. Ubisoft probably wants to gage how the fans react to the multiplayer and try to figure it all out before the add a full multiplayer function into Assassin’s Creed 3.

Are you excited? What type of multiplayer components do you think this game will have? Post a comment and let me know.

I think you misread that announcement friend. “as well as an offline component” refers to the game/expansion having a single player portion, besides the multiplayer mode, which, this implies, will be online.

I suspect that, given the combat system, there won’t be much direct PVP combat – I mean, when counterattacks are so deadly, who’s going to make the first move? Also, no doubt The Order frowns on that sort of thing.

I’d have thought multiplayer would involve special missions (co-op and/or competitive). Imagine racing your friends across the rooftops of Venice? Or teaming up for a mission where one player fights super-alert guards and another sneaks in to steal the treasure? There’s a lot of mileage in playing up the ‘Guild’ aspects of AC; friendly competition and co-operation, never raising a blade to your brethren. Add in more costume-customisation options, and you can have clans wearing their ‘team colours’
