Assassin’s Creed 2 Confirmed

We all knew this day would come, we just didn’t expect it so soon.

From Computer and Video Games:

Ubisoft has made first official mention of the totally-unexpected sequel to last year’s Assassin’s Creed.

Speaking during its first-half fiscal 2008-09 conference call, a company exec confirmed that it’s “working hard on the product,” but wouldn’t commit to a fiscal 2010 release date (i.e. next year) – although from what we’ve heard it’s incredibly likely.

That’s about it on the official side, but susperstar analyst Michael Pachter seems to have dropped more juicy details on Assassins 2, which he says has changed time frame from 1191 to “several hundred years in the future”, specifically, “sometime in the 1700s.”

Pachter went on to speculate that the French Revolution could be a potential setting for the sequel, which is infinitely more compelling to us than just more Jerusalem.

You may also remember that the Prince of Persia team let slip that Altair will be swimming in the next game.

What’ll be interesting though is how Ubisoft manages Altair in the 1700s (if that is indeed where the sequel’s taking place). Are we going to get a new assassin? A different descendent with the same name and clothes, ala Zelda? It’d be a shot in the foot for the company to waste the character it’s spent so long establishing.

I entirely disagree, that was the whole point of the beggining of Assassin’s Creed, to allow a certain a liberty to Ubisoft to change scenarios and characters. I think it’s actually one of the strongest points of the game as it prevents repetition and allows the series to continue for years to come

i agree with johnurf. Changing places, time and character is necessary even though the abilities and skills will at least reamin the same, though probably upgraded (swiming’s a start). The French Revolution would be a good scenario (lot’s of behind the scenes coups going on… supposed to be a democrac and becomes an Empire, all that). What I wish they’d put in is the possibility of failure/abort mission making us escape the city to come back later and try again but with heavier security. that’d be great

Tweak the controls this time around. The controls were very touchy and not as responsive as I would have liked them to be.

I agree that altair will march in to the futur with these assassins who remains ; but not in 1700 , it will be cooler to march in the age of desmond miles so they can see y choder; and to let desmond escape before they kill him. Assassin’s creed is my best best game and I ‘m still evry day , waiting for the assassin’s creed 2 to come. This is Joey speaking from lebanon.

I’d prefer a Musketeer era setting rather than a pre-Napolean era. If they are going to include guns in this, then the earliest known guns would be alright, but I’d prefer it to keep in the same type of close combat the first game had, but with Musketeer weaponry such as the rapier, daggers and pikes, and perhaps throw in crossbows and bows and arrows for long range. Maybe even borrow a bit from the Hitman games and use poisons, or set traps etc, to keep things interesting rather than simply hacking your way through the game (not that that’s actually a bad thing, but variety is nice).
Keep the free-running and agility aspects of the game, of course, as it would be awesome to see our hero leaping and climbing his way through 14th-15th century Paris or Rome or Madrid.
